Iovene debated the appropriateness of discussing the sprite's message with Velona present, but she was, supposedly, one who loved Eudora. So, having received, Iovene delivered in the spirit given. The sprite, who'd finally felt like she'd been heard flitted away to go about her airy business.
Velona, to say the least, was not happy, though the content of the actual message was quite innocuous. It was a message of well wishings from the queen and Kalai, but delivered with such love (and NOT to her) that Velona just knew something was up. It had to be a trick, designed to seduce Eudora away.
She wasn't going to stand for it. NO way. No how. NOT on her turf. The Amazon chieftess did have some pride and Eudora was her lover. Velona would not give her up easily. So, despite the darkened sky, Velona decided they would leave. She would take Eudora and flee from this suddenly dangerous house.
The red head, however, wasn't cooperating. She pulled her wrist abruptly from the chieftess grasp, protesting, making it sound like it was all Velona's fault. The dark Amazon hadn't liked that at all. Then Eudora had gone on about staying the night and how she should just calm down. They would talk about it and she would explain everything. They would work something out.
(Velona's anger wasn't Eudora's intent. She just thought Velona was being overprotective and needed to take a breath or two. There was so much that needed talking about. While she knew she was part of the seven, she also knew that she'd taken Velona as a lover for a reason. Her heart was still involved. Perhaps if they talked about it . . .).
Talk about it!!! Talk about it!! What was there to explain? What was there to work out? It was obvious that Eudora was already under their influence. Velona tried again. This time she would use brute force. With a "You're coming with me!" She reached out, only to find her own wrist locked in a powerful grasp. The blonde, Arete, looked sternly down at her with green eyes flecked with gold.
Velona didn't even hear the words Arete said. The chieftess of Skula was beyond fuming. She knew she didn't have a chance if she tried to battle her way out. Not with all of them, not at the same time. She yanked. .. she yanked. .she nodded like she'd heard what Arete was saying and yanked again and was released. Then, she shouted a few words she couldn't remember, but she meant every one them at the time. She roughly pushed Eudora into Xena's arms and stormed out of the house, leaving those within to pick up the pieces of their soulmate's heart.
She wandered the woods, losing herself. She was so angry she vented on a tree. The sword cuts had been deep and scarring. The metal had sung as it cleaved out chunks of wood. The tree might or might not live. She actually didn't care (a rare thing for an Amazon) at that point. With each strike she came closer and closer to convincing herself that the cause of her unhappiness had been obvious all along. A vision of strawberry blonde and flashing hazel eyes came to mind and she hated it. She hated the queen with all her heart.
She felt the clouds rolling above her, heard the thunder. She didn't really notice it. She was too caught up in her fury. Her chest was heaving. Her sword was finally at rest, having been plunged into the ground with one final burst of hostility. She reached for it and the lightening flashed, striking the sword with a light so bright it blinded and threw her into the air and across the ground. She was knocked unconscious instantaneously.
The lightening scattered across the grass, scorching each new path, as if its tendrils were searching. One sparkling bit of live blue fire latched onto her foot. Blue and white sparkles of energy covered her, filled her. Her unconscious eyes were filled with light. She didn't feel herself being dragged towards the sword. Her ear clip fell off, the feathers scarred with black. Her back was scraped by the force of the pull. She felt none of it. A face appeared in the lightening. There was mad laughter which smelled of acrid electricity. Velona was lifted high off the ground. Her body hung limply in the air, supported only by the energy of the Goddess. "So," Velaska intoned, "You hate the Queen? You want to destroy her? Well, I can help you with that." Velona, never woke up to give her opinion on whether she wanted the help or not.
