Summer Dreams

Chapter 15
Tipsy

by Katrina and Joseph Connell

The following is a bit of alternative fiction based on certain characters from the Xenaverse. It is not meant to infringe on anyone else's rights.

Around midnight, Joni and I were interrupted from our latest afterglow session. We'd spent all day loving each other. I felt...much better, so I wasn't cranky at all when the phone rang so late.

The guys were all aflutter when we got there.

Okay, maybe that's not the word, but they were discombobulated a bit. I tried to calm Jeffrey down while Cal...Joni interrogated ...I mean talked to the young software expert. Jeffrey showed me the room and swore up and down and sideways that he'd seen someone in there.

I pointed at the power panel which was completely unhooked. "Not possible," I said, though I knew that anything was possible...given certain circumstances.

Jeffrey, in all seriousness, exclaimed, "Look, I know it sounds crazy..." I winced. "But," he continued, "there was this guy in here. In a suit."

"A suit?"

"Blue, pinstripe. Big mutherfu..pardon..uhm guy. Muscular. He was wearing a sword, but he looked like a gangster. He looked...confused, and there was ...was this bright light for just a little while and he disappeared, but.." The electronics expert pointed to the ground and looked about himself suspiciously, "He was right here." I looked at the ventilated paneling on the floor and nodded. There was nothing under there but wiring and fancy odd angled projectors. Lots of them.

"Hmm," I said. I couldn't help myself. I leaned towards him, "You sure you haven't got what I've got." It was, I think, a fairly valid question. One never knew. I certainly was playing everything by ear.

He looked startled, almost laughed, and shook his head ruefully, "No. I Mean, no offense, but..." Jeffrey was beginning to look doubtful. I was feeling a little mean. "I was so...sure."

"Why don't we check the security tapes," I offered. I patted Jeffrey on his shoulder and started leading him out, "I mean, if the guy was here, then it'll be on the tapes right. Right?"

He grunted and played with his chin a little, then turned back to me, "Yeah..."

There was nothing on the tapes. Joni ordered the guys on vacation for two days. She told them, "GO HOME." The looks of dejection on their faces would have wilted stone, but Joni was tougher. "GOooo. HOOOMMMee." I guess they really did have someplace else to live. They turned around, shoulders drooping and everything, and disappeared down the hallway.

I looked at Joni. She looked back. Then we both headed for the VR room.
