Summer Dreams

Chapter 24
A world of surprises

The following is a bit of alternative fiction based on certain characters from the Xenaverse. It is not meant to infringe on anyone else's rights.

I think, had we more time, he'd have taken me in the grass. I know would have heartily cooperated, rock be damned. My back might have been scraped but the rest of me would have been ecstatic and a little backscraping hurts so good at the right times. His kiss sent my legs swaying apart of their own volition, causing my knees to form small mountains to my crotch's valley. Images of being kindly, forcefully plowed made me grind a little against my husband. He made such a grand warrior farmer.... I think he appreciated it. I felt his stirring. But we had no time for Aphrodite's pleasure.

His kiss was moist and teeming with the virile energy that was his to pass on. I groaned with disappointment and understanding that the kiss couldn't last, especially given the whir of noise that indicated there were two more arrows headed our way. "Later," he breathed in my ear as he hauled me up to my feet. It was a promise I was going to make sure he kept. I NEEDED later. Heck, I needed now, but I was still somewhat satiated from my night with Joni, so I could move past the demands of my body, into the happenings of the moment.

The running was the easy part. The dodging made our efforts aerobic. The air whistled with slim deadly projectiles while larger ones howled overhead, the chorus of battle and bloody death constantly in the background. The grass shushed against my feet. I could smell blood and smoke in the air. The grass was burning. I couldn't tell where the pungent scent of spilled life was coming from. All over, I guessed. Did we program death's rancid smell? I couldn't remember.

We made it to the cover of the heavy growth. I felt Ares' strong welcome hands grab me and thrust until I was behind the protection of a tree. Again he pressed against me, all leather and dark spice. His breathing excited me, and the adrenaline made our next kiss searing, letting me momentarily forget the horror surrounding us. It was the most sane thing happening.

"Ares," I panted once our lips seperated. "What's going on?"

His gaze moved past me, and I carefully turned around in his arms. Back and forth, back and forth. I didn't mind any of it. I looked beyond the tree, in the direction he was subtly pointing.

I saw gold and dark blooded leather. She was screaming bloody murder and pounding almost blindly in our direction, sword waving. I was as familiar with that form as my own. In fact, we'd just loved. But you couldn't tell it from the hate in her eyes.

Callisto was on the warpath.

It made me wonder what I'd done *this* time.
