Summer Dreams

Chapter 29
Brief Visions

The following is a bit of alternative fiction based on certain characters from the Xenaverse. It is not meant to infringe on anyone else's rights.

With the lights of the warcamp flickering a new kind of hypnosis I had a vision. Once again my feet were planted in bloodbone muddied ground. I could hear the my heart beating in my ears, as if I had floated far away. I looked at my hands and they were slick with vibrant brickcrimson. I was surrounded by walls and I put my hand up and slid it along the bright white surface. The runny streaks spelled the names of the Goddesses.

and...

"Brigid! Snap out of it" The words startled me enough that I nearly fell out of the saddle, but Callisto saved me from certain embarrassment.

"It's blinding. They part the sky like the red sea." I said, still halfway caught in the vision, as we grew nearer to the camp. The flames seemed to call down the diamond stars, pulling the night sky to them, folding back Nicht's cover. I hadn't had so much to do with the Gods of the sky. But some had helped me, so long ago. Hecate's name was written on my fingertip. It was the moonlight that was missing. "Where is the sun's reflection?" I asked.

"shh..." she soothed, cupping my cheek in her hand. She turned my face towards her. I could see the weak glow in her eyes, but her soul still felt strong, "Stay with me, hon, can you do that?" I fell into woods of her eyes.

I nodded, very unsure. Her gaze sparkled with awareness of my state and she pulled me against her as we made our way further into the camp. I hoped..I hoped she knew where we were going.
